Therapy FAQs

Common Questions About Therapy

How many sessions will I need?

I offer open-ended therapy. There’s no ‘right’ number – only what feels right for you.

Some people come with a specific focus and find 8-12 sessions brings clarity and relief. Others choose to stay longer, especially when exploring deeper or more complex experiences. We’ll regularly check in together, gently reviewing how things feel and adjusting as needed. This is your journey and we move at a pace that supports you.

How does therapy work?

Therapy is a collaborative. thoughtful process – a space where you don’t have to have all the answers.

Together, we explore your thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and experiences with curiosity and care. As understanding grows, so does choice. My role is to offer a grounded, supportive environment where insight can unfold naturally, emotional awareness can deepen, and meaningful change can take root.

How long does therapy take to work?

There’s no fixed timeline for growth.

Some people notice shifts quite quickly — perhaps a new perspective, a sense of relief, or feeling truly heard for the first time. For others, change unfolds more gradually and steadily. Both are completely valid. Lasting, meaningful change often builds gently over time, layer by layer.

I feel anxious about starting therapy. Is that normal?

Yes – completely.

Beginning therapy can feel vulnerable. You’re stepping into something new and personal, and that takes courage. Feeling nervous, uncertain, or even hesitant is entirely natural. My priority is to create a space where you feel safe, respected, and supported from the very first moment.

What happens in the first session?

The first session is simply a starting point — not a test, not a deep dive unless you want it to be.

We’ll talk about what’s brought you here and what you hope for. I may ask some gentle questions to understand your background and explain how I work, including confidentiality and practical details. There’s absolutely no expectation to share everything straight away. We go at your pace.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes. Your privacy is deeply respected and protected.

Confidentiality is a core part of ethical practice. The only exceptions relate to safety and legal requirements, and these will always be explained clearly in our working agreement so you feel fully informed and secure.
